Day 2 on Cruise: 神农峡 and 白帝城.
The second day on board was filled with activities. Firstly, we had to change to a smaller ship. This ship brings us through the valley which was narrower. Along the way, we were greeted by the cool breeze and humongous mountains. The size was gastronomical, the entry was uncalled for, what an amazing first sight. There were suspended coffins along the mountains too! But it’s a pity that I didn’t get to see it with my eyes. However, I managed to get a glimpsed of it when I was at 白帝城.
We visited神农峡, Shennong Gorge as well as白帝城 in the second day. 神农峡was more special and memorable, as we had to change from the small ship to sampans which can only accommodate 17 person, 1 tour guide and 5 rowers. One of the specialty of this visit is that when the sampans had to move upstream, 3 of the rowers had to get down and pull the sampan against the flow of the water. It is very tough and tiring. They earned 25yuan for every trip. Last time, they pulled the sampans without putting on any clothes and pants as it would cause lots of friction to their bodies. However, now as the tourist population increases, the government agencies requested that they put on at least a pair of shorts so as to give a better impression of Shennong River.
