Day 9: New lecturer, new experience

Anxiety kicks in when we woke up, the 1st thing we did when we woke up was to check the match result. Manchester United scored 2 - 0 against Inter-Milan. Manchester United were through the next round.

Initially I intended to wear jersey to celebrate the victory, however, it was quite cold as it was raining quite heavily outside. Today is the 1st day we experienced a rain here in Wuhan. As we are walking to our classroom block, a taxi came by, we decided to take it, although our block was just streets away. We convinced ourself that spending money on taxi was better than going to visit a doctor if we fall sick. Guess how much was the ride??? 5 yuan. Which maybe cost less than $2.

Back in Ngee Ann, we have sheltered walkway to almost every block from the bus-stop. I have learnt to appreciate the kind intention of the "client", which in this case is Ngee Ann Polytechnic. It is really good to be able to attend classes with dry clothes and dry environment. If not for taking a taxi today, I will have to attend class in soaked clothes. Totally no shelter as we walk over.  Also, I am reminded of Block 34 lift whenever i had to climb 7 stories high before reaching class. We are really living in a comfortable and convenient environment compared to China.

Lessons were at 0800 hours, we skipped our breakfast as it was raining very heavily. Today is IS lesson, we were taught by a China Lecturer. His english was quite well-spoken just that his chinese was much preferred among us.

We had our brunch at 1000 hours. We had the same type of food. It's either fried rice or noodles.. I am actually quite sick of it already. Any other places to have our meals? But food was really cheap here. I think it's the food that I had days ago, I am having a sore throat now. Hope tomorrow will be okay. I think by the time we go back, we would have gained a few kilograms.

Mr Andy Xi, School of Business, WIT

Learned briefly about the economics of China today. From today's lecture, I can understand that China, although is ranked 2nd after America with a GDP of $7.8 trillion, the china has very little spending power. When they do not spend much, the economy does not improve drastically.

One more difference we had today was we took a tram from the entrance of the University to our hostel doorstep. 1 yuan per ride. It was really worthwile, considering the rain and weather.

Today is also a special day for us, our apartment was finally installled with heater!! For the past few days, we had been going down to 1st floor to bath. Our apartment was terrible for the past 7 days.

1) There is no water on the first 3 days.
2) There is no warm water for us for the past 1 week.
3) Toilet light fused, but fixed on day 6.
4) Titchen lights fused but not fixed.
5) Kuan deprived of internet for 5 days.
6) Heater down for 7 days

But thanks to our CEE counterparts, we solved our problems temporary by sharing with them at their apartment.
